Druids Temple, Masham, North Yorkshire *FREE*
🏛 It’s not a temple but a 19th Century Folly with a lovely story behind it. It was built to alleviate local unemployment, wealthy landowner William Danby then paid workers 1 shilling a day for their work.
🏛 It’s a great place to explore, fab place for hide and seek too! The children love climbing over it! We usually make an afternoon of it.
🏛 We park at Swinton Bivouac glamping site and have a coffee there. It has the most amazing views and a few children’s apparatus to keep them occupied. It’s a perfect spot and a lovely café.
🏛 We then head up to the temple and do it as part of a circular walk through the forest, with fantastic views over the Leighton Reservoir. The walk takes about an hour, taking it easy and with little ones in tow. Fine for a pram but can get muddy in parts. We also did a Geocache last time we were there.
🏛 I’ve not visited myself but my sister says the near by Swinton Estate is worth a visit too.
🏛 We drove back down towards Pateley Bridge via Appletreewick/Burnsall. A very scenic route with nice pubs and places to paddle along the way.
We will certainly go back for a third time the next time we visit Yorkshire.
