My Favourite place on Earth
Brimham Rocks is a wonderful place and one which I have been visiting since I was about 8 years old!
Set in dramatic heather moorland of Nidderdale, weird and wonderfully shaped rock formations are found around the hillside. They have been here since 100 million years BEFORE the dinosaurs first walked on earth! Made by a gigantic river and years of ice, snow and wind, they really are a wondrous sight.
OR if you are a child... a HUGE natural climbing playground! Clamber around the rocks, find familiar shapes of the dancing bear, eagle, turtle and many more! There are gaps to climb through, stones to rock, secret natural passages to find. I have to say that coming here as a child was out of this world, coming here as a parent... keeps you on your toes! Especially if you have climbing children like mine! Needless to say, they loved it!
There are toilets, a little cafe and even a second hand bookshop in the little stone building that blends perfectly into the setting. We love to take a picnic and find a perfectly formed stone to climb up and enjoy the view.
Its free to visit, you just have to pay for parking at one of the machines, coin only or via the parking app. If you do need to pay by card, apparently you can go to the welcome hut and ask a member of staff.
After your visit head on into Pateley Bridge and visit Ye old Sweet shop, have fish and chips and a walk along the river, stopping off in the really well equipped playground. Go on through Pateley Bridge to The ColdStonesCut and explore the randomness of the piece of art by Andrew Sabin on a monumental scale. Read more about it here.
